A young man at the start of his career experiences the hardship of a unfair 9 to 5 office job that becomes detrimental to his health.
This festival-winning film follows a recently graduated Harry as he applies and gets his first job. As a fan of motivational podcasts, he follows the advice he hears to the letter and lets his work gradually erode his mental and physical health.
Carry On was my first foray into political filmmaking. A script co-written with Kyle Borg (which he directed), it was meant to be a commentary on today’s working culture and the psychological pressures that my generation faces.
As DP I kept my work very naturalistic. We still wanted the framing to be cold and controlling around Harry, trapping him, never granting him the release of leaving the frame. As the film goes on, the colours are less and less saturated, to represent the numbness that Harry is feeling.
